Starting to test out drupal using xampp on my home computer. We shall see how it goes. I may move my whole site to drupal if it works out well.

NEW NETBOOK

March 5th, 2010

I just got meself a new computer. I think this is the first time ever that I have had a brand new computer. It is an ASUS Eee PC 1001P-MU17-BK, and I must say, for the price, I have never seen better reviews. So far it does everything I could possibly need a netbook to do. so far it’s using 10% of the battery an hour, which means it would be good for a full 9 hours on heavy constant use. I’ve been watching videos and using image heavy software, and installing and deleting software… It’s certainly satisfying to finally use a windows computer that is designed to be used. My faith was not misplaced! One of the few negative reviews of this little sprite(which is what I named it) was that the keyboard seems a little flimsy. It is a little noisy for my liking, but I love the arrangement of the keyboard. The function key finally has a purpose, and for my small hands, everything is right there. The mouse button is a little stiff, but you can also click with the pad itself, so it hasn’t slowed me down too much. Asus knows what they are doing. Also, the multi touch functionality of the trackpad is awesome. Everything works smoothly, and being able to zoom in and out with the track pad is pretty cool. To improve the work flow of this little demon, I have also added Dexpot for virtual desktop effects. It works quickly and adds a large amount of desktop space for such a small screen. So far I’m happy with it.

In other news, I am planning to soon redesign this sight. I don’t plan to redesign the graphics necessarily (maybe widen the content area) but I do want to run the whole thing on the wordpress engine instead of just my blog. I’m thinking it will be my first experiment in creating an entirely original wordpress theme… or who knows, maybe I’ll use drupal instead so I can start familiarizing myself. Ah well, just giving a heads up that some things are going to be changing around here. Also, I intend to turn this whole site more into my hub than an advertisement of my skills. It should end up being really cool when I have the time to do it.

WoW

January 14th, 2010

Started playing WoW… Like I said I never would…

It is ridiculously addictive. I currenlty have a level 14 Draeni(or however you spell it) paladin.

Also, since neither I nor the mister have seen the original Star Trek series, we are working through it on Netflix. I grew up on Star Trek, but I have seen every episode EXCEPT the original series that started it all, so we’re watching then, and then will be working our way through all the other series. We will be doing similar thing with Battlestar Galactica, since James has never seen any of those either, but has been told Caprica is good.

Good ol’ nerd times.

This is appropriate.

I should totally put this on my main page, and whenever a client starts being difficult, just point them to it.

Code business

December 6th, 2009

Putting together this new site has been teaching me a lot about php and the building of a website. Next site I put together, I think I’m going to do a custom theme for. In the process of putting together the whole netwoking package, I’m also learning things like how to customize myspace, which is something I’ve been wanting to do. Also, I think I’m going to be switching this whole site over to be run on wordpress. I’m learning the functions, and will be able to use that to build the code instead of just inserting it. Will make life much easier in the long run, and it will be a good learning experience.

So far I am disappointed with twitter. I know it will be a great tool because a lot of people use it, but a website as big as that should be able to handle large loads. Three or four times in teh last two days, I’ve gotten on and the site has been overloaded and unusable.

Ah well, it will all come together.
